Akpeyi’s Kaizer debut ends in a draw

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi make his debut for South African club Kaizer Chiefs as they played out a 1-1 with their rivals Orlando Pirates 1-1 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

 

Akepeyi who joined Kaizer Chiefs from Chippa United weeks back and was thrown in the tick of the action in the Soweto derby for his debut where he performed excellently well.

 

The Super Eagles 2018 World Cup star was given the nod ahead of Virgil Vries who was left out of team completely and in the 71st minute Pirates Pule’s shot was saved by Akpeyi whose Chiefs took the lead from penalty spot.

 

However With 10 minutes to the end of the game, Pirates eventually levelled as Motshwari slipped a silky ball through Lorch through on goal and the forward went on to round Akpeyi to slot into an empty net.

 

Both sides went in search for a winning goal in the closing stages but clear-cut openings were hard to come by as they held on for a point each.
