Akwa United 2-0 Wikki Tourists: Alhassan Ibrahim inspires win in Uyo

Alhassan Ibrahim returned to Akwa United, starting for the club in the 2-0 win against Wikki Tourists at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in a rescheduled league match.

Alhassan, who was invited to the Super Eagles camp in the friendlies against Corsica and Togo, was dropped for the 2019 Afcon qualifying match against South Africa at the weekend.

The midfielder though jumped back in the Promise Keeper’s line up for the matchday 24 rescheduled fixture against Wikki.

On that occasion, Musa Newman scored in the first half, grabbing the opener on 25 minutes from close range and Christian Pygbara struck the winner in additional time of the second half on 90+2 minutes.

It was Wikki Tourists’ 12th straight away loss in the NPFL this season and also; failing to pick an away point this season.

Bala Nikyu’s team have also been leaky in the defence, keeping just one clean sheet in their last nine matches.

Wednesday’s victory takes Akwa United to sixth on 36 points in the league table; tied on points with Lobi Stars and Niger Tornadoes.
