Auwalu Peppers Lobi Stars as Pillars Come from Behind in Four-goal Thriller

In-form Auwalu Ali Malam struck a brace to cancel out Lobi Stars’ lead against Kano Pillars and help his side earn a point in an entertaining NPFL match at the Aper Aku Stadium on Sunday.

Lobi Stars raced to an early lead through Carlos Galeya, who opened scoring inside the first eight minutes of the encounter.

Gbenga Ogunbote cracked a smile on the touchline as his side doubled their lead ten minutes later as they looked set to secure all points.

Samad Kadiri (18′) scored from the spot, for his third of the season and their 25th goal in the campaign, only Sunshine and Plateau United had more.

Pillars on the other hand were slow off the block and struggled to get a grip on the game as hopes of redemption slide away, at least in the first half.

But, the visitors struck just before the break to halve the deficit, the first of two on the day for the Pillars Midfielder Auwalu.

The hosts controlled possession but could manage to create as many chances as they only registered five threatening moments and three shots on target all game.

Pillars were clinical though and there next opportunity to score did actually end up in the back of the net, the goal scorer of the first getting his brace in minute 68th.

Auwalu has now scored three goals in his last two league games for Pillars and six in 21 league appearances.

Eventually, the sides settled for a share of the spoils, Pillars moving to 7th in the table while Lobi lost some pace in their title ambitions.

Ogunbote’s side are now three points behind leaders Plateau United, who are on an eight-game unbeaten run.

In second position sits Rivers United, who stretch their unbeaten run to five games and also open up a two-point gap ahead of the Makurdi club.
