On the day when it mattered for Salisu Yusuf and the CHAN Eagles in the NPFL Invitational Tournament 2017, it was the big boys – in quality and size – who lit the fire.
Last season’s top scorer Anthony Okpotu and Kingsley Eduwo fired the Eagles to a 3-2 victory in the final against MFM FC on Sunday at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Okpotu scored a brace, the first on the stroke of half time and the second on 69 minutes.
Eduwo made three on 78 minutes and Yusuf’s men were running away with it.
It was the time a single game had produced three goals or more in the tournament.
But when it seemed like the Fans were resigned to seeing a one-way encounter MFM responded with a quick double.
Within four minutes Jonathan Zikiye (86′) and Chuka Uwaga (90′) reduced the deficit and it may have even seem that Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men would force the game into penalties.

However, that resurgence started a bit too late as the Eagles held on to snatch the win with a collection of the best players from across the league at the expense of the best teams in the NPFL.
