Chipolopolo end Bafana Bafana’s CHAN 2018 Dream

Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the 2018 African Nations Championship, after losing 2-0 to Zambia in the second leg.

The two nations played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg last weekend, with the Zambians coming back from two goals down against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

Bafana Bafana squandered a good chance to break the deadlock inside the opening five minutes as Bongi Ntuli fired with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Festus Mbewe went close to handing the hosts the lead after 20 minutes but his header sailed wide for Bruce Bvuma’s goal.

The home side went close once again in the 36th minute through Justin Shonga’s deflected free-kick that forced Bvuma into a fine save.

The South Africans failed to carve out chances in the remaining stages of the second half, as the sides went into the break goalless.

Mario Booysen nearly handed Bafana the lead shortly after the break but his header sailed wide of the target.

Thabo Senong opted for a change after 73 minutes as Dumisani Zuma made way for Jamie Webber.

Zambia then took the lead in the 80th minute, as Shonga sprung the offside trap and slotted past Bvuma.

The South Africans pushed for an equaliser, but were unable to bypass the Zambian defence while Shonga added a second goal for the hosts in the 83rd minute.
