CWG 2018: Team Nigeria Table Tennis keep medal Hopes Alive… More woes for Boxers, Lifters

On Day Three of the Commonwealth Games Team Nigeria progressed a step towards winning a medal in Table Tennis after Men’s Team defeated hosts Australia in quarter-final 3-1.

The Trio of Bode Abiodun, Olajide Omotayo and Segun Toriola advanced to the semi final where they’ll face England on Monday.

 

Still on Saturday, the Country’s medal hopes in Boxing and Weightlifting took further hits as Sikiru Ojo fell to Ghana’s Samuel Addo 4-1 in the Men’s 56kg round of 16.

 

In the Men’s 85kg weightlifting event, Michael Anyalewechi, who had started well, succumbed to India, Samoa and Malaysia. He finished in fifth with a total of 324 points; 2 behind Cameroon.

 

Earlier in the day, Nigeria faced off against Canada in the Basketball event, with the hopes of redeeming after their defeat to New Zealand.

 

D’Tigers lost their opening game 65-101 to New Zealand and failed to raise their game against Canada.

 

The Road Warriors took down D’Tigers 82-67.  The result means Nigeria will play in the qualifying rounds against either Scotland or England.
