DR congo’s Cedric Bakambu completes £35.5m China move from Villarreal

Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu has completed his move away from Estadio de la Cerámica as he leaves for Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan.

The Democratic Republic of Congo striker, who has found the back of the net 14 times this season across will join the Chinese club next week.

The 26-year-old Bakambu had his services bought by Beijing for €40m, after they activated his release clause.

Cedric arrived for the Yellow Submarines in the summer of 2015 from Turkish side Bursaspor for €7.5 million.

The France-born Bakambu is currently joint-fifth top scorer in Spain top flight with 9 goals in La Liga this season, having netted 48 goals since his arrival from Turkey.

Villarreal currently sit sixth in the La Liga standings on 27 points, 18 behind runaway leaders Barcelona.

The Spanish giants have been drawn against French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais in the last-32 of the European second tier competition Europa League.

“I’ve already said goodbye to my teammates,” Bakambu told Diario AS.

“I’m hoping that everything will definitely be resolved between the two clubs as that is all that is left before the move is processed.

“Things change very fast in football, but I’ve had this offer for a long time and I did not want to say anything to anyone.

Bakambu has been capped 16 times by Democratic Republic of Congo since getting his national senior team call-up in 2015.
