Nigeria’s sole continental football competitions campaigners Rivers United today arrived the country from Rwanda where they booked a spot into the group stage of the ongoing CAF confederations cup after playing out a goalless draw with Rayon Sports in Kigali to qualify on a two nil aggregate.
Head coach of the team Stanley Eguma revealed to brila.net that the experience they had in Sudan inspired the team to do well against a well organized Rayon Sport team despite playing with 10 players for the best part of the game.
An excited Eguma says he’s confident the team [Rivers United] will do well in the group stage. “we lost out in the CAF Champion’s League and now that we’re here in the confederations cup, we have to intensify our concentration level to ensure that we just don’t go out there to fill space but to qualify out of the group stage.
Our major target is to win the trophy. Nobody goes to a competition without having a sight at the trophy but first, we have to cross the group stage hurdle.
The draw for the group stage will be held on Wednesday April 26, 2017 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
