Former Eagles forward Garba Lawal has come into the defence of central defenders William Troost Ekong and Leon Balogun following below-par contribution in the Super Eagles World Cup qualifier defeat to CAR in Lagos.
A glaring lack of communication and some sloppy defending between the two defense partners led to the goal scored by CAR’s striker Karl Namnganda in the 90th minute.
Speaking to brila, Lawal said the two defenders, though were sloppy should not be the only ones taking the blames for the loss as they have always been reliable at the back.
Lawal further admits that mistakes happen in football – In his words, “If there are no mistakes, there won’t be goals, so the blame should be collective, the entire team should take responsibility and bounce back,” He said.
The Eagles will take on the Central African Republic again on Sunday in Douala, Cameroon for the return leg of the qualifying encounter.
