Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has hailed the performance of Alex Iwobi and his midfield teammates after their 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
Iwobi and his colleagues were impressive in the middle of the park as Everton ended Chelsea’s nine-game unbeaten run in Saturday’s last fixture.
Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, as Carlo Ancelotti’s men picked up their first victory on home soil since 3rd October.
Reacting to the win, Ancelotti said he is pleased with his midfielders for their battling display.
“Defensively, we did really well; it was fantastic from our midfielders — Allan, Doucouré, Sigurdsson, Iwobi. They worked really hard. The team sacrificed, but that was the target to sacrifice because against a top team like Chelsea you have to sacrifice.”
“They did really well and after that [with] our counter-attack we were really dangerous. We didn’t concede a lot of opportunities and I think we deserved to win.”
