Anthony Joshua’s shock defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr. sent a tremor that travelled across the world of sport, and it will go down as one of the biggest upsets in the history in sport.
Joshua (22-1-0, 21 KOs), who is of Nigerian descent, was defending his WBA, IBF and IBO heavyweight titles against the underdog, Ruiz Jr. (33-1-0, 22 KOs), but a seven rounds later the former had hit the canvass four times and lost the fight by TKO.
In the aftermath of the fight, several Nigerians sports stars have had their say; showing support or merely acknowledging a spectacular feat achieved at the MSG in New York.
Super Falcons and FC Barcelona Femení star Asisat Oshoala, tweeted a couple – spinning a theory and also appreciating former Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury’s response:
