Floyd Mayweather mourns “Grand Dad”

Floyd Mayweather paid a heartfelt tribute to his cut man Rafael Garcia “Grand Dad” who has died aged 88.

The retired 50-0 American harnessed the talents of Garcia as a hand wrapper and cornerman who was a much-loved member of the boxing community.

On his Instagram page, Mayweather posted a montage of pictures of the pair together, adding the caption: ‘RIP Grand Dad. I will always love you.’

Garcia’s health deteriorated after he was stung by a swarm of bees earlier this year.

He recently suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with leukaemia two weeks ago.

He is credited with helping fix Mayweather’s fragile hands which were plagued with problems during his magnificent career.

Mayweather affectionately referred to Garcia as ‘Grand dad’ showing the almost familial bond he felt with the cornerman.

But it wasn’t just the former five-weight world champion who benefited from Garcia’s skill and composure during fights.

He helped a staggering 35 world champions during his involvement in the sport which spanned more than 60 years.
