Gerrard warns Aribo, Balogun, others against complacency

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard warned Joe Aribo, Leon Balogun, and other players that they cannot take their opponents lightly despite being in good form.

Aribo and Balogun helped the club to a 3 – 0 win against St Johnstone on Wednesday, with the former Charlton Athletics getting on his name on the score sheet.

Speaking after the game, Gerrard said Aribo, Balogun, and others became sloppy after going 3-0 up before half time.

He said his players let the game die instead of maintaining their rhythm and standards over the course of the 90 minutes.

The Liverpool legend who is irritated by the poor second-half display from his side said he has enough qualities on the bench to replace players who are can’t sustain their standards for 90 minutes.

“You probably think I’m a moaner but even though we won the game comfortably 3-0, we can still learn a lot collectively and as individuals. The important thing tonight was to get minuted into Kemar, you can see him picking up some really interesting areas, so it’s only a matter of time before he gets fully fit.

“The best players play, those who contribute and perform at a consistent level. I said to the players tonight: ‘While you’ve got the shirt, do your best to keep it’ because there is quality on the bench.” He said.

Rangers are sitting on top of the Scottish Premiership summit after winning all three matches in the new season.
