Insatiable Guardiola wants Man City to improve despite 17 consecutive wins in EPL

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes his side still have room to improve, after they defeated Bournemouth 4-0 at the Etihad.

Sergio Aguero took his tally of Etihad Stadium goals past 100 with a double, whilst Raheem Sterling also claimed his 16th goal of the season, and Danilo scored his first for the club as Guardiola’s side extended their League football record run of successive victories to 17.

City’s four goals also took their Premier League total in 2017 to 101.

“It was so tough because they play five at the back and 10 players behind,” Guardiola told BBC Sport.

“The space was almost impossible to find and we were lucky to score the first goal. The last 20 minutes they push up and after then we played a real good game. We were ready mentally. Again.

“In football always you can improve, individually or collectively, so it is not a target to be perfect – it does not exist in the world. Just now is a good Merry Christmas.”

When asked how his side can improve, Guardiola said: ”Attack more fluently, more chances, it is not easy when the opponents stay back.”

The City boss reserved special praise for Aguero, calling the Argentine a ‘legend’ after his double.

“There is no doubt about that. He is a special player, a legend and I am so happy when he plays good and he is scoring goals. I know the players who normally don’t play are upset, but all the team deserve to play.

“The numbers explain for themselves. It is so difficult for the strikers when there is no space. He made a fantastic performance, not just the two goals but the assist for the second one.”
