Julius Nwosu appointed as D’tigers head coach

Julius Nwosu will lead Nigeria’s Male Senior Basketball National Team D’Tigres of Nigeria to the upcoming FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

The former D’Tigers and NBA star was handed the coaching role for the first window of the African Qualifiers and he will replace Mike Brown for the tournament.

The 51-year-old left the shore with the team for Angola — the venue for the qualifiers on Tuesday.

Nwosu will become the fourth coach to lead Nigeria since 2015 after Will Voigt guided the West Africans to their first African title.

Other Nigeria head coaches over the past six years included Alex Nwora, Mfon Udofia, and Mike Brown, an associate head coach with the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.

During his playing career, Nwosu represented Nigeria at two FIBA Basketball World Cups in 1998 and 2006. He also helped Nigeria to the Third-Place of AfroBasket 2005 in Algeria.
