Leon Balogun explains his Super Eagles Captaincy Role

It might have just been on interim basis, but wearing the captain’s band was a huge honor for Leon Balogun.

Leon Balogun, 29, captained the Super Eagles against Algeria in the 1-1 result on the final day of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr rested his captain Mikel Obi as he made substantial changes to the starting XI that faced Les Fennecs in Constantine on Friday.

In a chat on the team’s official Twitter page, Balogun said, “It was a great honor but I am well aware that it was just in assistance for Obi Mikel. But still it’s a great honor to wear the captain band, also in a qualifier.”

He also tweeted : Proud to have captained my country today and remain unbeaten at @FIFAWorldCup qualifiers. The road to Russia was an exciting and even more successful one. I dedicate this achievement to our team mate @Carl_Ikeme who started this journey with us. This one’s for you bro 🙌🏽🇳🇬🦅
