Maina Rates Lagos Badminton Classic As The Best In Africa

The Vice-President Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Mohammed Maina, has lauded the Lagos international badminton championship as the best in Africa.

The competition saw several players from across the globe gathered in Lagos to slug it out for the top prize of 25,000 dollars tournament.

Mohammed Maina believed the tournament is living up to expectations and added that Nigerian players who had been eliminated from the championship are paying for the high standards of the championship.

“This is the most prestigious tournaments in Africa and no other one comes so close, that is to tell you the caliber of the players that we have around.

“The standard of the game is improving on a daily basis and every year we find out that a new set of players are coming in with their own new skills.

“Our players not reaching a particular level is telling us that we have a lot of things to do in Nigeria, we really have to put them into a lot of training to get them exposed,” he said.

Nigerian players, including the African number one, Dorcas Adesokan, were eliminated from the 25,000 dollars tournament in day 2.

Another Nigerian Tosin Atolagbe lost in the quarter-finals to Ozge Bayrak 21-4, 21-6 who also defeated Aminat Ilori by 21-10, 21-8 in the preliminary stage.
