Former Super Eagles Captain John Mikel Obi was unable to rescue Stoke City from defeat against Bristol City on Sunday.
The former Nigeria international was on parade from the start to finish for the Potters, but it was the visitors that took away the maximum points at the Bet 365 stadium.
The game was closely contested until Nahki Wells gave the visitors the lead on the stroke of half time.
Mikel and his teammates chased the game in the second half and they were guilty of missing numerous chances to restored parity.
Bristol City however sealed the win with a fantastic finish from Andreas Weizmann on the dot of 90 minutes.
Mikel and his Stoke City teammates have secured just a point from their first two games so far.
The Potters will continue their search for the first win of the season when they travel to Preston North End next week.
