Minister warns Super Eagles against underrating the Squirrels

Minister of Sports Mr Sunday Dare has charged the Super Eagles to go for victory against the Benin Republic in their Nations Cup qualifying match.

The Super Eagles will slug it out with their hosts at the Stade Charles De Gaulle this Saturday for a place in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

 

The 1980, 1994 and 2013 AFCON champions have won all five meeting against the Squirrels, who are have a Eight-year unbeaten home record.

 

However a draw for Nigeria will be enough to seal the team’s place in the 2022 African Cup of Nations.

 

In his address to the team, Sunday Dare advised the team not to underrated their opponents, before urging them to go all out for the needed points.

 

Dare also assured Gernot Rohr’s tutored side that Nigerians are solidly behind them.

 

“The match is important,  hence you must put in your best to ensure victory.  You started the series well, so you have a duty to finish well and pick a ticket for the Nations Cup. No match comes easy,there are no minnows, so  don’t  underrate your opponents because football is unpredictable.

 

The last outing between them ended 2-1 in favour of the Super Eagles, with Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu sealing the result at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
