Nigeria was Lucky against Sudan – Amunike

The Super Eagles were lucky to get a win against Sudan in Wednesday’s CHAN semi-final match according to Ex Eagles, Emmanuel Amunike.

Nigeria pipped Sudan 1-0 to book a place in a first ever CHAN final against Morocco, but Amunike insists the North African team had themselves to blame for being wasteful.

“They were naive in front of goal,” Amunike said.

Gabriel Okechukwu’s 16th minute goal separated the sides and secured a difficult win in a very physical game.

Reacting to the outcome of the game, the former Golden Eaglets Coach, who is the Technical Manager of Sudanese club Al Khartoum SC said, the result shocked football fans in Sudan.

“They’ve been quite since Yesterday. The Sudanese were not effective in managing the opportunities they created.”

Nigeria face Morocco in the final on Sunday at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca. The hosts are favorites and Amunike, who played for Egyptian side Zamalek SC, believes the margin for errors must be reduced.

“They were naive in front of goal but Morocco will give no such chances, so we need to defend better and as a team.”
