Nigerian rowers secure 2020 Olympics/Paralympic ticket

Following the completion of the 13th African rowing Championship in Tunisia which also served as Africa Rowing Olympic qualifiers, Nigeria finished with two gold medals and one Silver medal and automatically secured spots in the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo, Secretary of the Nigeria rowing, canoeing and sailing federation, Olubunmi Oluode Ola has revealed.

The secretary told brila.net that in the Paralympic qualifiers, Nigeria/Africa Para-rower champion, Ijomah Kingsley Okoroafor who had been training abroad before the tournament secured a gold medal, while female para-rower Oluwatoyin Alayode Mary failed to qualify for the Paralympics but secured a Silver medal.

 

Other Rowers who participated in the tournament, Toko Esther Tamaramiyebi will be making her dream debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after securing her ticket winning gold medal in the tournament.

 

Olubunmi Oluode also disclosed that the Federation’s attention has shifted to ensure that the athletes get adequate preparation ahead of the Olympics so the athletes can give a good account of themselves in Tokyo.
