NPFL Matchday 33: Plateau Utd Stays at the Top, Pick first ever point in Kano

With the NPFL hitting the home-stretch, leaders Plateau United and second placed MFM FC maintained status quo in their match day 33 matches.

The Jos team grabbed a 1-1 away draw against Kano Pillars at their Sani Abacha Stadium; their first ever in Kano.

Meanwhile, MFM FC were also held in a goalless draw with Enyimba at the Agege Stadium.

A win for MFM would have seen the Olukoya Boys move to 58 points, and just one behind league leaders, Plateau United.

However, now they remain on 56 points, three behind Plateau. Enyimba are fourth on 51 points.

Plateau United, who were at the point of widening the gap in Sunday’s clash with Sai Masu Gida, when Ibeh Johnson fired them ahead in the 17th minute.

But, Pillars responded, drawing level in the 52nd minute through Hamza Abba Tiya as both teams eventually had to settle for a point apiece.

Meanwhile, in Ijebu-Ode, Akwa United’s title hopes hit a snag following a narrow 1-0 defeat to the rejuvenated Sunshine Stars led by Coach Duke Udi.

The only goal of the game was scored by Ajibola Otegbeye from the penalty spot in the 16th minute.

Akwa remains third on the league table on 51 points.

El-Kanemi Warriors also suffered a setback in their quest for a continental ticket following their 1-0 away loss to Niger Tornadoes.

Tornadoes’ goal was scored by Bolaji Adeyemo in the 77th minute.

With the defeat, El-Kanemi dropped to sixth with 49 points.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars gave their fight against relegation a big boost following their 2-1 victory over Gombe United.

Musa Usman gave Gombe the lead on 55 minutes before Seun Akinyemi equalised from the penalty spot on 72 minutes.

And in the 79th minute, Najeem Olukokun scored the winner which took 3SC to 43 points and 14th on the log.

In other match-day 33 fixtures, Remo Stars’ already slim hope of avoiding the drop continued to dwindle as they lost 2-0 away to ABS.

Abia Warriors recorded the only away win this weekend defeating Lobi Stars 4-2 in Makurdi, while IfeanyiUbah edged visiting Nasarawa United 1-0.

Rivers United and Katsina United clash comes up today at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
