NRA Condemns Assault on Female Referee in Lafia

Home Fans at the Lafia Stadium reportedly assaulted club Chairman Isaac Danladi and female referee Mimisen Iyorhe after Nasarawa United lost their opening game of the league season against Plateau United.

The attackers slapped and pulled the ear of chairman Danladi, per Kola Daniel [SCORENigeria].

While referee Iyorhe was rescued from by armed security men after the crowd attacked her, reaping her uniform in the process.

In its response to the incident, the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) condemned the attack on match officials on matchday one of the season.

In a Press release, the NRA stated :

Preliminary reports have it that while there was a minor attempt to maltreat the referees who handled the league opener in Katsina; Katsina Utd vs Kano Pillars, the Nassarawa Utd vs Plateau Utd clash turned awry for the referees who were seriously brutalised leading to a disturbing health conditions.

The NRA regrets that despite the appeal by its leadership led by Tade Azeez for all stakeholders to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and refrain from making referees their scapegoats after unfavourable outcome, attacks on match officials heralded the new season.

Plateau United defeated Nasarawa United 1-0 from a late goal scored by 19-year-old Ayagwa Raphael.
