Nwakaeme helps Trabzonspor end ten year trophy drought

Nigerian striker Anthony Nwakaeme was an unused substitute in the final of the Turkish Cup between his team Trabzonspor and Alanyaspor on Wednesday.

Nwakaeme who has scored eleven goals for the club this season was surprisingly left out of the starting eleven, but the team coped without him.

While the Super Eagles striker was watching from the bench, Abdulkadir Omur and Alexander Sorloth scoreless in the 25th and 90th minutes respectively to hand Trabzonspor their first trophy in a decade.

Trabzonspor narrowly missed out on the Turkish Super Lig title to Istanbul Basaksehir, but winning their ninth Turkish Cup title is a big consolation for the team.

Nwakaeme who is the only Nigerian player left in the team after the departure of Ogenyi Onazi and John Mikel Obi in January and March respectively has now add the Turkish cup winners medal to his medal collections.
