Ojo, Aribo Help Rangers To First Win Over Dutch Opposition In 20 Years

The Nigerian duo of Sheyi Ojo and Joe Aribo were heavily involved in Rangers 1-0 win over Dutch side Feyenoord in Thursday’s Europa League clash at Ibrox.

The Scottish side started strongly and put their guests under severe pressure, as they chase an early lead.

However, Feyenoord could not keep the rampant home side at bay and in the 24th minute, after Barisic had won the ball against Rick Karsdorp in a 50-50 tackle, Ojo, who’s on loan from Liverpool, picked up the loose ball and drove a glorious left-footed shot from 20 yards past Kenneth Vermeer for a deserved opener.

While Ojo was handed a starting shirt by Coach Steven Gerrard, Aribo was introduced with five minutes left on the clock and did well to earn himself a good review.

Sheyi Ojo has now scored five goals across all competitions for Rangers, with four of his five goals coming in European competition (including qualifiers).

With Ojo’s goal, Rangers has now picked up their first win against Dutch opposition in European competition since October 1999 (4-1 vs PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League) – they were winless in the previous five such games before tonight (D2 L3).
