Assistant coach of Nigeria’s women basketball national team Peter Ahmedu has stated that the release of the official fixture schedule by FIBA for the Tokyo Olympic games later this year will aid the preparation of the Nigeria women basketball team now that they know the order of games and how to approach the group stage.
Ahmedu speaking in a chat with brila.net said the official schedule is favourable to the Nigerian team who will get her Olympic preparation in full swing in the USA where they had pre-Olympic camping and the choice of USA as the team’s first fixture will mean the team can concentrate on having as many friendlies in the USA and set the team on a tough course from the start of the Olympics basketball events.
“Now you know the team we are playing first like the D’Tigress we are playing against the USA which is going to be very interesting because we are starting our camp in the USA so we are going to have bunch of the players who are playing in the WNBA play us in friendly games. They have actually put us on a high ladder because we are starting from the top. And if we can contend with the American team then any other team we will take care and be good to qualify for the quarter final.”
