Rangers coach Ugwu blames defenders for AS Kara loss

Enugu Rangers Chief Coach Benedict Ugwu believed his side didn’t deserve to lose to AS KARA in Sunday’s CAF Confederations Cup third round first leg.

Ifeanyi George penalty almost earn the Flying Antelopes a valuable draw away from home, until the Togolesse side got their deserved winner two minutes of added time to Rangers to a 2-1 defeat.

Speaking after the game, Ugwu said that it was a good match which could have ended in a draw, but no thanks to loss of concentration from his defenders.

“It was a very tough game for both sides. We did not deserve to lose the match but a loss of concentration in the dying moments of the match by my defenders presented them with the opportunity to score the winning goal.

“No doubt, we have what it takes to get the result that will qualify us for the group stage in the return leg. I am very positive.” He said.

Captain of Rangers, Tope Olusesi also echoed the statement of his coach, by stating that they let themselves down in the closing stages of the game.

“ASCK is a good side and they passed the ball well but we were able to contain them through most part of the match until that moment of loss of concentration that allowed them to get the win.”

“I believe that we can make it to the group stage after the second leg in Enugu. We can do it.”

Rangers will host the Togolesse next week for the return leg, a win for the eight time Nigerian Champions will see them through to the Group stage for the second consecutive season.
