Referee Owati suggests way forward to have Nigerian referees at the world cup

Nigerian referee Tolu Owatti has stated that Nigeria can only get to the very top of refereeing by taking deliberate steps and effort towards achieving this objective and stressed that getting the younger ones into refereeing from a much younger age will be key in this regard.

Owatti speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said having carefully observed what is obtainable in other advance climes, all that needs to be done is to start incorporating the younger ones into refereeing and guiding them accordingly.
The referee believes that through the right mentorship program and tutoring which will eventually help speed up their development at a much faster rate and quality is improved over time when they have gotten used to the laws of the game at a very Young age.
“They make deliberate attempts in bringing up younger ones to fill up any void they will have. We all tell ourselves Nigeria don’t refer games at the world cup.
The question is do we put as much effort into developing people to become referees. Kids as younger as 12 or 13 years already get introduced into refereeing and before they get to age 18, they are already FIFA materials.”
