Former national team player Mutiu Adepoju has stated that head coach Gernot Rohr should be left with the final say and exclusive preserve to invite players for national team assignments even when a performing player at club level gets overlooked.
Adepoju speaking in a chat with www.brila.net stressed said scouting of players apart from just doing well must also conform to the coach who mirrors players invitation to his system and style of play and as such not just any performing player can be called but players that fits well into the favoured system of the coach.
“Any player that is doing well and playing very well at his club can be given the opportunity but it’s only the coach that knows which players he wants.
Anyone playing well will desire to play for his or her national team but it is now left to the national team coach to decide the invitation of such players based on his system and style of play and not just for anyone to dictate to him because one player is doing well.”
