Ronaldo talks with Madrid for the first time regarding his future

Cristiano Ronaldo left the Confederations Cup early and briefly returned to Madrid, en route to the United States, where he held positive first talks with Real according to reports in Spain.

Ronald’s future has become one of the hottest topics of debate after it was reported that he had told the Spanish giants he wanted to leave the country.

Ronaldo, 32, who had not spoken to the club in almost two weeks, felt he had received a lack of support over the tax fraud scandal he is currently embroiled in and was unhappy with his treatment by the press.

Real president Florentino Perez claimed he had not had any contact with Ronaldo regarding a plea to leave during a recent radio interview, though did concede that his star man was ‘angry’.

But the saga finally appears to be coming to a head after Ronaldo was allowed to skip the Confederations Cup third-place play-off by manager Fernando Santos following defeat to Chile on penalties in the semi-final.

Florentino Perez told Onta Cera: ‘Cristiano has a contract with Madrid so I do not give all this [speculation] the importance that others do. We must wait and we will speak after the Confederations Cup. He is angry.

‘Many people have wanted to damage him with this tax issue, and other issues, and that affects him.

‘We are delighted to have him at Madrid. I think Cristiano will also stay where he is. I have not spoken with Mendes about him. At the moment there is no reason to get too concerned.’

The Portuguese skipper, who didn’t take a spot-kick in the shootout, booked a flight to the United States, via Madrid, where he met his new-born twins for the first time.

And, according to Madrid mouthpiece Marca, he has also used his long-awaited break from competitive football to talk to Real officials for the first time regarding his future.

The report claims that, after brief discussions with Ronaldo, the club have been completely reassured that he will remain at the Bernabeu for the foreseeable future.

The mood at Real is now one of ‘tranquillity and confidence’ as they breathe a huge sigh of relief that Ronaldo will not aggressively pursue an exit despite significant interest from Manchester United and PSG.

The Portuguese star now believes that the club are doing everything possible to aid his situation ahead of his impending court case on July 31

This marks quite a significant change in attitude from the club, who had merely released a brief statement on Ronaldo’s tax issues until word of his desire to leave got out.

It has even been suggested that the club could now pay off the €14.7 million (£13m) in tax payments Ronaldo is accused of evading on his behalf.

Ronaldo and Perez will still meet face-to-face next week when the five-time Ballon d’Or winner jets back into Madrid with the two new additions to his family, where any lingering doubts of Ronaldo seeking a move away are expected to be put to bed once and for all.
