Scott Parker explains Josh Maja’s half time substitution

Fulham Manager Scott Parker has examined why he took off Josh Maja at the time break against Leeds United on Friday.

Parker’s side lost 2-1 to Leeds United at Craven Cottage with Patrick Bamford and Rafinha scoring for the visitors, while Joachim Andersen netted for Fulham.

Josh Maja almost scored for Fulham in the first, but the shot was cleared off the line before he was substituted and replaced by veteran Alexander Mitrovic.

Speaking to the on his decision to take off the young striker, Parker said the decision was purely tactical and nothing more.

“I wanted the team to try and stay cool and calm to make the right decisions which are easier said than done. Bringing Mitro on gave us that outlet to build on, we tried to run off their man-to-man system. But we need to put the ball in the net.” he said.

On good chance missed by Ademola Lookman before Leeds scored the winner, Parker said he’s more than disappointed the team did not take the opportunity.

“Goals change games and we missed a massive chance to put ourselves in front, within 30 seconds we’re picking the ball out of our net. Tonight we needed to be better.” He concluded.
