South Africa defeated Nigeria 2-0 in a Group E 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Saturday.

It was Bafana Bafana’s first win against the Super Eagles in a competitive match.

Striker Tokelo Rantie scored in the 54th minute – his third goal against Nigeria – and Percy Tau doubled the lead in the 82nd.

It was Gernot Rohr’s first defeat since his appointment as Technical Adviser of the team and Stuart Baxter’s second win against Nigeria.

The win means South Africa move to second spot in the Group behind Libya, only on goals difference.

  1. Akpeyi is a jittery keeper (see Algeria game). I don’t understand why he was chosen if he wasn’t used in the 2 friendly games. If he was chosen bcos he plays in SA & should know the bafana players, don’t the coaches realise that conversely the bafana boys would know his weaknesses?
Moses Simon may have been the most entertaining of our players but what does it profit a man if he dribbles the whole world but cannot make an accurate cross? Work done=zero
Kelechi is not a striker. Support striker-yes. Attacking midfielder-perhaps. When will we realise this? Terry & Lampard were not converted to strikers even though they score goals. So what’s the confusion about?
Gernot Rohr. You once said you did not pick Musa Mohammed cos of lack of game time. Pls when has Chidozie Awaziem ever started for Porto?
Pls what do they practise in training if they cannot take decent corner kicks? What was even more annoying was the fact that they couldn’t even vary the style when it wasn’t working
Finally, were the boys instructed not to shoot from outside the box? What’s up with the persistent & inaccurate long balls? I tire for our boys.
