Super Eagles were a joy to watch – Balogun

Defender Leon Balogun described the Super Eagles’ ouster from the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon as bitter but insists the team was a joy to watch.

The Super Eagles were bundled out of the tournament in the round of 16 by 2004 winners, Tunisia.

A Youssef Msakni’s goal secured the vital win for the Carthage Eagles who qualified for the round of 16 as one of the best losers.

Reacting to the defeat Balogun, who missed the tournament due to injury, said the result is a bitter pill to swallow but insisted they gave a good account of themselves.

“An extremely bitter defeat ends our title aspirations for #AFCON2021. That doesn’t change the fact that they’ve been a joy to watch,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Glasgow Rangers defender also advised fans to desist from abusing the players.

“So please, don’t let negativity and bashing of players take over. Instead, keep supporting them as you did before today” he said.
