Ifeanyi Udeze backs Rohr’s decision to drop Maduka Okoye

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has said that Gernot Rohr made the right decision to exclude Maduka Okoye from the starting eleven against the Central African Republic.

Speaking on Brila FM ‘s No Hold Barred on Thursday, the former West Bromwich Albion defender backs the coach’s decision to drop the Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper and stated that fielding him would have caused problems in the team.

Recalled Okoye was the last player to report to Super Eagles, and it was said that he missed his flight from Amsterdam.

“He made the right decision and I was the best for the players. Starting Okoye ahead of the other players that reported to camp earlier would definitely caused some problems and he might not be able to handle it at the long run.”

“Personally, I’m not happy that Okoye did not start the game, because he’s our number one and he’s doing well at the moment. But the coach has to stand his ground and make sure the players are disciplined.”

Meanwhile Francis Uzoho was given the nod to start the game, but he was unable to stop the Super Eagles from going down at home.
