Former Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi has likened himself to the legendary Zinedine Zidane in his role within the Nigerian National team.
In a recent episode of the Obione Podcast, hosted by his former Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard, Mikel stated : “In the Nigerian National team, I used to be the Zidane, taking responsibilities, including shooting penalties.”
Mikel, renowned for his leadership qualities on the pitch, has had a remarkable career representing Nigeria. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ triumph at the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
