The No.7 shirt is a historic one at Real Madrid and Mariano Diaz did it proudly when he scored twice against Villarreal.
He inherited it from Cristiano Ronaldo after his transfer from Lyon last summer, but it hasn’t been a joyful campaign for the Mariano as he has suffered injury after injury.
Even when he was fit he hardly featured for Julen Lopetegui, Santiago Solari or Zinedine Zidane, but he was given an opportunity on Sunday and netted twice to double his goal tally for the season.
With Luka Jovic on Real Madrid and Zidane’s map, Mariano is expected to fight for his own future, because he never gives up, just like the past owners of the No.7 jersey.
