Thiery Henry lures Nigerian midfielder to Montreal Impact

Nigeria youth international Orji Okonkwo says he’s delighted with the prospect of playing under Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry at the Major League Soccer League side Montreal Impact.

Okonkwo has been linked with a move to the European side after the expiration of his loan deal at Montreal Impact, but the prospect of learning under one of the greatest players of all time brought him back to the States.

Okonkwo, 22, who stars for the Club in 2019 for Impact Montreal and was voted the Club’s Most Valuable Player award last season.

“I’m looking forward to making a bigger impact when I wear the shirt again,” Okonkwo, who has the option to join on a permanent deal, told BBC Sport.

“I feel lucky to get a chance to work under a legend like [Thierry] Henry. I can learn important tips on how to be a better player from someone who has won the World Cup and achieved so much at club level as well.

“You don’t get an opportunity like this all the time, I really plan to make the most of it.

“I know a lot of the players and I am really excited about our prospects this season after missing out on the play-offs last season.”

Meanwhile, the Dream Team VII midfielder has put pen to paper for a new deal with his parent Club Bologna before returning to Montreal Impact.
