Polish legend Jan Blachowicz earned a unanimous decision victory over Israel Adesanya to retain his UFC 259 light heavyweight title at from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas on Sunday morning.
Blachowicz won the fight after the judges scored the bout 49-46, 49-45, 49-45 in his favor.
It was the first professional defeat for Adesanya who just moved up to the division to challenge for the title.
The defeat means Adesanya fell shot of his aim to become the fifth UFC fighter in the organization’s history to hold belts in two weight divisions at the same time.
Despite the defeat, The 31-year-old remain the middleweight champion and After the fight, Adesanya said he’s going back to 185 pounds.
In just over three years since joining the UFC, Israel Adesanya has captured the middleweight title and put together a nine-fight win streak, before losing for light heavyweight gold.
