Coach Austin Eguavoen has explained why he left out players plying their trade in Nigeria professional league out of the Super Eagles AFCON squad.
Eguaveon named his final 28-man squad for the tournament last month and, Enyimba’s shot-stopper John Noble is the only home based player on the list.
Asked why he snubbed outfield players from the local league, Eguaveon responded by faulting the late kick off of the league.
“The time was short to invite home-based players because the League started late and also the issue of the provisional list. I wanted to bring six of them, but the timing was short.” He said.
Eguaveon’s team will ace Egypt in their opening game of the competition on the 11th of January in Garoua.
