Nigeria’s D’Tigress aren’t in Spain to make the numbers at the FIBA Women’s World Cup and that’s a warning from Forward Evelyn Akhator.
Akhator, who is one of the stars in the 12-player roster, will be making her debut appearance – as are the rest of the team – in the world championship, when Nigeria play its first game against Australia later on Saturday.
D’Tigress are in group B alongside Australia’s Opal, Turkey’s Potanın Perileri and Las Gigantes of Argentina.
Akhator charged the team and Nigerian basketball fans in her IG post on the eve of game day.
She posted a picture with teammates Ezinne Kalu (left) and Adaora Elonu (right) accompanied with the caption:
Looking forward to my debut @fibawc @fiba Spain 2018. Representing my country is an honour. My teammates and I are not here to just make the numbers, we are here to give it our all and make our country proud.
And the message was well received by the fans, who thronged her account with appreciation and support for the player.
