Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen insists Libya remains a formidable opponent despite their poor start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Libya currently sits at the bottom of the table with just one point from a possible six, and they desperately need a win to revive their chances of qualification.
However, the Mediterranean Knights are grappling with several challenges, including key players withdrawing due to injury and protests against their Football Federation.
Libya will face group leaders, the Super Eagles, in a crucial matchday three encounter of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in Uyo on Friday, followed by the reverse fixture in Tripoli four days later.
While acknowledging that the Super Eagles are favorites for the clash, Eguavoen stressed that Libya will fight hard to avoid defeat.
“They have one point and are bottom of the group. We are aware of our position, and they are aware of theirs,” Eguavoen told the Super Eagles media team.
“They will come here and fight. We are not thinking about the away game yet—our focus is solely on the game in front of us on Friday.”
“We will fight for the three points. We know how important it is to secure qualification as early as possible.
“It’s going to be tough, but the boys are in good spirits. We have no injury concerns, and everyone is ready for the challenge.”
