In the aftermath of their recent friendlies against Ghana and Mali, Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that the Super Eagles are now directing their attention towards the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

With eyes firmly set on securing a spot in the tournament, the Nigerian national team is gearing up for crucial matches against South Africa and Benin Republic slated for June.

Speaking on the significance of qualifying for the World Cup, Omeruo emphasized the importance of redemption, especially after their absence from the previous edition in Qatar 2022.

“June is only a few weeks away. We are focused on the matches against South Africa and Benin Republic,” Omeruo was quoted by thenff.com.

Despite their formidable reputation on the African football stage, Nigeria find themselves yet to record a victory in the ongoing World Cup qualifying campaign.

The team has drawn their opening two matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

“Many players in the group have not played at the World Cup before and they see this as the big opportunity to be there. We cannot afford to let ourselves and the nation down.”
