One of Nigeria’s most decorated tennis player, Funke Oshonaike has criticized the organizers of the ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open.
Oshonaike claims she and other Nigerian players had to provide accommodation for themselves.
She added that she picked up her on bills when she needed treatment at the Open.
The Nigeria Open which is in its 4th edition was held in Lagos and had 22 nations in represented.
A livid Oshonaike, who has won several Africa Games medals and represented the country at the Olympic Games, expressed shock that foreign players got better treatment.
‘Nigeria did not really treat me well at the Open. I had to do a lot of things on my own regarding welfare.’
‘It’s worrisome when Nigeria hosts an ITTF event and our players had to provide accommodation for themselves.’
‘I was dealing with the trauma in the event and personal issues on the day I lost in the singles,’ she fumed.
