Abia Warriors didn’t deserve to lose against Enyimba – Imama Amapakabo

Abia Warriors coach Imama Amapakabo says his team were not disgraced despite their 2-1 loss to Enyimba in the Abia derby.

Imama spoke shortly after his side lost to Enyimba in Aba.

“As a coach, the things I look out for is how well my team was able to function in the duration of the game and they had a big advantage because they have better match fitness than my team but in all, we were able to keep them at bay. They did not create as many chances. As far I’m concerned, the goals that they had today were gifted goals but that is football for you, somebody has to make a mistake for a winner to emerge. Congratulations to the Enyimba team today”

Enyimba scored their second goal in the 77th minute through former Nasarawa United right-back, Chinedu Obasi.

The right-back scored from a long-range freekick after Okiemute Odah failed to keep off his effort despite getting a hand to it. Despite that mistake, Imama had good words for his goalkeeper and said he will not sideline him for that mistake

“Not at all, he is part of the team he pulled some saves. I think he relaxed as at the last minute when he got to the ball and he felt that it was easy save to pull and unfortunately it passed in front of him and went into the net. That is football for you. He had a wonderful game despite that mistake that cost us the game”

Imama also spoke about Shadrach Oghali who had a good game and was denied a goal by Ojo Olorunleke in the 44th minute.

“He did what we wanted him to do. We knew one of the Enyimba defender that used to be with us, the other we knew that we have to tactically put him under pressure and he was out to perform a function and he did to a point where we felt that we had to change tactics for what we were doing and  when we changed tactics we were doing very well and unfortunately the goal came and changed the narratives of what we were doing”

He said that though his team lost, that they were not disgraced.

“Last season was unfortunate we played Enyimba and we lost by a penalty goal, this year 2-1 and everybody that watched the game would agree with me that the team was not disgraced. We play very well, we did not deserve to lose but unfortunately, that’s football for you.”
