With the progress of Civil Defenders at the FIBA Africa Basketball League and their elite 8 path confirmed, the Nigerian side is expected to produce a master class performance against their next opponent, AS Sale.

The Moroccan side who are the current holders of the championship had in the group stage faced another Nigerian side, Royal Hoopers, on their way to a 3-0 record to finish top of group A.

While the form of the North African team is a cause for concern, it is not the only thing Defenders have to worry about, their style of play differs and requires precision, focus and a lot of mental work.

In a chat with www.brila.net Defenders star Victor Okpe admits they’ve got their work cut out going up against AS Sale, as he expects a the battle to be more mental than physical.

The point guard pointed out the sharp distinction between teams across the divide on continent.

‘Against teams from any other part of the Africa, was know it’s about power and being physically on top of our game. The north Africans are a bit different; their game is characterized by a lot of technical and mental work, and this is how we will prepare, largely, for them.’
