Adelani’s late strike earns Go Round massive win over Yobe Desert Stars

Go Round Football Club needed a late strike from substitute Adeseun Adelani to beat Yobe Desert Stars at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium, Omoku, in Sunday’s matchday twelve of the 2019 Nigeria Professional Football League.

The game started on a slow tempo with both sides struggling to create any meaningful chances in the half hour mark.

It wasn’t till the 32nd minute that any of the teams made an attempt at goal when Yobe Stars’ Moses Tsehuan scared the birds at the arena with his free-kick.

Of the six attempts at goal recorded in the game, three were wayward free-kicks and Adelani had two of the three attempts from open play.

The hosts failed to register a shot on goal throughout the first half, as both teams go into the break leaving the spectators in frustration.

The introduction of Adelani in the 57th minute sparked things for the hosts in the attack as they record their first effort at goal, but It was so lame and posed no problems for Yobe Stars keeper Terkaa Melai.

On the other end, Anayo Ogbonna leading Yobe Stars’ attack gave Go Round defense marshaled by Akaba Oteba little cause for worry.

What the teams lacked in purposefulness in attack, they had aplenty in ball-caressing midfielders with former Go Round playmaker Uche Okeke pulling the strings in the middle of the park for Yobe Stars.

But Adelani’s introduction made the hosts more dangerous where it mattered most.

In the 73rd minute, Melai was forced into the only save made by any of the keepers.

Right-back Ogunjobi Akinwale’s cross was met on a half volley by left-back Paul David but Melai parried into the corner. That was more like it for the hosts.

By the time Ogbonna was sent off in the 85th minute, the hosts piled more pressure and with almost the last kick of the game, Adelani blasted home the match winner.
