Former Nigerian sprinter and now Athletics coach Emem Edem has stated that the current leadership crisis in the governance of Athletics in Nigeria is bad for the sports and will only draw the sports backward because confusion will reign and there won’t be meaningful progress if this persists.
The 2003 All Africa games Gold medalist said in a chat with www.brila.net that the leadership tussle is one that requires all the so-called stakeholders to simply come together in the interest of the sport to sheathe their sword and look for a lasting solution to the current crisis without which it will take it toll on athletes and Athletics in Nigeria.
“Since we have two factions we don’t even know who is who. Instead of them to work together as one, they are busy quarreling themselves and it will not move Athletics forward instead it’s bringing them backward. So they should settle this among themselves so athletics can move forward. We are not gaining, instead we are loosing everything, we are not happy about it at all, we are not.”
