AfroBasket 2017: Ike Nwamu Inspires Nigeria’s 90-67 win against Mali

D’Tigers have all but qualified for the quarter-finals of the AfroBasket championship following their 90-67 win over Mali on Saturday in Radès, Tunisia.

Guard, Ike Nwamu dropped a team-high 22 points to power D’Tigers past the Malians and improved Nigeria’s head to head stats to 4-0.

Nigeria maintained a narrow lead against their opponents throug the first and second quarters.

The difference between the teams at half time was just six points, Nigeria 39-36 Mali.

But on resumption of the third quarter, Coach Alex Nwora’s men raised the ante and dominated building a 17 points margin in the concluding quarters.

D’Tigers are 2-0 and will play their final group game on Sunday when they face DR Congo at the Salle Omnisport de Radès.

Ike Nwamu was the star for the Nigerians as he weighed in 22 points and two rebounds. He was followed by Ike Iroegbu, who got 18 points and nine rebounds and Bryant Mbamalu with 17 points, five assists and two rebounds. Captain Diogu had 15 points and four rebounds.

Ibrahim Djambo had 24 points and seven rebounds while Boubacar Sidibe weighed in 13 points and nine rebounds to lead the charts for the Malians.

Nigeria converted 51.22 per cent of their two-point field goal against Mali’s 39.13 per cent. The Malians converted 22.73 per cent of their three-point field goals against Nigeria’s 42.31 per cent.

Mali had 15 points from their bench while Nigeria had 13.

D’Tigers converted 65.22 per cent of their free throws but Mali converted 59.26 per cent of theirs.
