Calvin Bassey is relieved after Ajax Amsterdam returned to winning ways after a run of horrible results, including a 1-6 defeat in the Champions League against Napoli last week.
The Nigerian was on target as Ajax ended four games winless runs in all competitions with a 4-2 away win against Volendam.
Responding to questions, after the big win, Bassey who was singled out for criticisms after the defeat against Napoli, said:
“How do you think it would be after that (Napoli loss)? Of course, it was not nice. Nobody wants to be on the receiving end of it.
“But the most important thing for us is to try to wipe it clear and go because we do have quality in our team.
“We showed it a lot more near the beginning of the season, the quality we have and how we can play. It’s just about getting back to that level.”
Bassey and his teammates will be aiming to avenge the defeat when they play Napoli at the Diego Maradona Stadium in the reverse fixture on Wednesday.
The Dutch Champions are currently third on the table, with just three points from a possible nine.
The Alfred Schreuder’s side defeated Glasgow Rangers in the opening game, before suffering back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Napoli.
