Calvin Bassey could be heading towards Ajax exit door after just one season with the club.
According to reports from Netherlands, Ajax Amsterdam have received a bid for the Nigerian international who is struggling to adapt at the club.
Dutch pundit Mike Verweij stated that Ajax has received €23m bid from an unnamed Premier League side and the club could entertain it.
Recall, Ajax paid almost £22m to land the 23-year-old from Glasgow Rangers last summer.
“To my amazement, a bid of €23m has been received for Calvin Bassey,” said Verweij told Telesport, which is a podcast run by De Telegraaf in the Netherlands.
“It’s from the English Premier League. I don’t know which club.
“And by the way, some people at Ajax think that he can be sold one day for 40 million Euros.
“I don’t know which club it was, although it won’t have been one in the top five.
“On the one hand, there’s a lot of constructive criticism that has come in for Calvin Bassey this season.
“But also, if you look at him defensively, I can imagine there’s interest from clubs.
“And for English clubs, he would be a good signing too because of the homegrown rules.” He said.
Bassey has endured torrid time at the club, being singled out for criticisms by Ajax legend and some section of the Dutch media.
